Internationally known, Lance Elbeck began his early studies with George Perlman in Chicago. Shortly thereafter, Lance became concertmaster of the Chicago Youth Orchestra and soloed with them. His brilliant performances as a youngster earned him a scholarship to study at the famous Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. While at Curtis, Lance studied with world renowned teachers Galamian and Makanowitsky.
Since graduating from the Curtis Institute, Lance has performed extensively as a soloist across North America and Europe and has been a featured soloist with the Chicago Symphony and the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Leonard Bernstein.
He has also been a member of both the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy. While a member of the Philadelphia Chamber Players, Lance was represented by Columbia Artists.
During his career, he has been concertmaster for the orchestras of the Kirov, Bolshoi and Norwegian Ballet Companies during their American tours and has also been guest concertmaster for the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, the McGill Chamber Orchestra, New Music in Toronto and the Ontario Place Pops Orchestra.
Lance joined the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra as concertmaster in 1978 a post he still holds and has been featured frequently as soloist over the years.
As well, Elbeck is currently concertmaster of the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra, the resident orchestra of George Weston Recital Hall and Torontos premier salon orchestra, The Grand Salon.
He has been a guest lecturer of violin at the Paris Conservatoire, taught at the Meadowmount School and the New School of Music in Philadelphia.
Currently Lance teaches violin at McMaster University.
He continues to perform Fiddle On Fire, a scripted production of some of the greatest virtuoso music ever written for the violin.
